Places to Check Out When You’re New to Austin

Barton Springs

Barton Springs is a pool/creek that everyone flocks to in the warm summer months. Fed by a natural cold-water spring in Zilker Park (see below), the city-run Barton Springs Pool features manicured lawns that are great for lounging on and relaxing with your friends. The wide pool gives you plenty of room to float around and cool off, as the temperature can hit 100 degrees in the summer.

The pool costs $4 USD to get into (for residents, but they never ask for proof), and while there’s lots of space around it, I often prefer to lounge on the creek itself.

While the banks are rockies and fewer places where one can lay down comfortably--it's free! And also has about the same level of water quality as well which makes drinking alongside your towel possible if you want too.

Zilker Park is in the heart of South Austin and offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as hiking. Hiking has become more popular over time for this reason alone because it's an activity that will take you up high where there are great views to be seen!

Walk the Greenbelt

The Barton Creek Greenbelt provides 12 miles of scenic trails to explore. You can bike, run or walk the path and enjoy beautiful views like Bluffs near limestone cliffs for rock climbing when there’s water in the creek! It is one of our favorite places because it's so relaxing; plus you never know what might happen - imagine swimming next to fish? It has become an Austin classic that everyone loves visiting or living nearby so they don't miss out on this amazing asset.

Catch a Movie at the Alamo

The Alamo Drafthouse is a place for film lovers in the Austin area. They have multiple locations, where you can watch movies and order food while drinking beer--or try one of their iconic cocktails! Besides showing mainstream films with subtitles or dubbed soundtracks (sometimes even both!), they also screen quirky preview screenings geared towards genre enthusiasts like me; there are always interesting events going on here too including Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings every month. This isn’t just any theater - it's your neighborhood cinema that will remain open late hours so long as people support them by coming check out what we're screening next week.
